About the Job

The Receptionist provides general administrative support to the Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel, such as answering phones, assigning incoming requests to the appropriate attorney, maintaining office files, equipment, and the law library, and delivering completed work requests.

The Receptionist position offers a starting salary of $39,000, as well as a robust benefits package.

Requirements

Due to the nonpartisan and confidential nature of SLC’s work, applicants should have no substantial participation with any political party or cause. Applicants commit to not having substantial political involvement during their SLC employment. Other requirements include:

    • Individuals must be willing to work in-person in our office in Washington, D.C. during the core hours of 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Receptionist will also have weekly early morning or late night coverage, and may be needed occasionally on weekends.
    • Willing to adapt to changes due to the unpredictability of the Senate schedule.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in English usage, grammar, and spelling.
    • Attention to detail.
    • A professional and collegial approach, including an ability to work well as a team member.
    • A commitment to confidentiality.
    • An ability to work well under pressure.
    • Strong computer skills and demonstrated word processing skills.
    • Experience in a clerical and secretarial support function and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
